Q: How big do Blue Agaves get?
A: They grow up to 7 ft tall and 8 ft wide, so be sure to leave enough space for them to grow.

Q: How fast does Agave Americana grow?
A: Blue Agaves have a very slow growth rate, it can take them up to 30 years to reach maturity.

Q: Do Blue Agaves survive indoors?
A: Although they thrive with full sun, they can also survive indoors next to a window with plenty of light and hopefully some direct sunlight.  

Q:  Can you eat the Blue Agave?
A: Although its core is harvested for its tequila, the leaves are edible and can be made into syrup. It also has medicinal effects aiding in digestion and lowering cholesterol levels. 

1. Sunlight

Blue Agave Americanas prefer full sun, but they can tolerate locations with partial sunlight as well.

2. Water 

  • Succulents need very little water.
  • SUMMER: Water once every three weeks.
  • WINTER: Water once every two months.  
  • Overwatering or bad drainage can cause permanent damage to the roots over time. 

3. Fertilization

Blue Agave Americanas should be fertilized once a month during the Spring and Summer months, with a Cactus and Succulent specific fertilizer.  

4. Soil

 Plant your Blue Agave Americana with a soil mix specific Cacti and Succulents, giving it the perfect mixture of organic and inorganic elements it needs to thrive. 

5. Pruning

It is not necessary to prune your Blue Agave Americana. Some yellowing may occur in the bottom branches as the palm grows, pruning it improves the overall look of the plant, but is not necessary. 

6. Handling and Safety

Blue Agave Americanas have spines, so make sure you use gloves and handle the plant with caution.

7. Temperature

If temperatures fall below 40°F, Blue Agave Americanas need to be covered with a frost blanket or if in a pot, brought indoors.
