Red Banana Trees
Red banana trees (Musa acuminata 'Red Dacca' or similar cultivars) are exotic, tropical plants known for their striking appearance, lush foliage, and uniquely flavored fruit. Whether grown for ornamental purposes or for their sweet, reddish bananas, these trees bring a touch of the tropics to any landscape.
Bold Beauty in the Garden
With their broad, paddle-shaped leaves splashed in shades of burgundy, green, and even pink, red banana trees are often chosen for their dramatic foliage. Their fast-growing nature and vibrant coloration make them ideal centerpieces in tropical or subtropical gardens, poolside landscapes, or large containers.
Unique and Delicious Fruit
Unlike common yellow bananas, red bananas have a reddish-purple skin and a sweeter, creamier flesh with hints of raspberry and mango. These bananas are rich in vitamins C and B6, potassium, and fiber—making them as nutritious as they are flavorful. When fully ripe, they make an excellent snack, smoothie ingredient, or dessert component.
Easy to Grow and Maintain
Red banana trees thrive in full sun and warm, humid climates, typically in USDA zones 9–11. In our area they can grow outside with care!!!. They prefer rich, well-drained soil and benefit from regular watering and feeding during the growing season. With proper care, they can reach heights of 8–15 feet and produce fruit within 18 to 24 months.
