Q: Is the Bandido Peruvian Cactus a different specie than the Peruvian Apple Cactus?
A: No, they are the same plant. The difference is the shape of the Bandido is the quintessential cactus with a central stem and two stems coming out of opposite sides.

Q: Why is it called Bandido Cactus?
A: It is called Bandido Cactus because Bandido is a Spanish word for "bandit", since the cactus resembles a man with both his hands up. Additionally, the nickname comes from the fact that this cactus is very resilient and tough- much like bandit known for surviving in difficult circumstances. 

1. Sunlight

Bandido Peruvian Cactus needs direct sunlight for at least 6 hours a day. 

NOTE: Keep young (less than 3 inches or cutting), in indirect sunlight until established and can handle full sun.

2. Water 

Cacti need very little water.

  • SUMMER: Water once every three weeks.
  • WINTER: Water once every two months.  
  • Overwatering or bad drainage can cause permanent damage to the roots over time. 

3. Fertilization

Fertilize once a month during the Spring and Summer months, with a Cactus and Succulent specific fertilizer. 

4. Soil 

Plant your Cactus with a soil mix specific for Cacti and Succulents, giving it the perfect mixture of organic and inorganic elements it needs to thrive. When repotting, be sure to change old soil for fresh potting mix.

5. Repotting

It is necessary to repot your Bandido Peruvian Cactus every two years, in order to allow it room to grow and more importantly, to change all the soil for fresh potting mix. 

6. Handling and Safety

Bandido Peruvian Cacti have spines, so make sure you use gloves and handle with caution. Keep out of reach from children and pets. 

7. Temperature

Best between 60°F and 76°F. The Bandido Peruvian Cactus is sensitive to abrupt temperature fluctuations and cold temperatures below 50°F.
